Traveling is one of my hobbies and being a traveler, I like to explore different parts of the country. More recently, I got a chance to visit one of the hill stations, Matheran, located in the state of Maharashtra. This blog will cover all my experiences during the travel to this hill station of Maharashtra. Quite happily, I would say my friends’ Sushil Tiwari, Dhananjay Yadav & his friends were a part of this wonderful journey.

Location

Located in the Tehsil of Karjat, the place is in fact, the smallest hill station in India. This smallest piece of heaven is in fact, a municipal Council in the district of Raigarh. Located on Western Ghats range at the height of 800 meters, Matheran is located at a distance of 90 Kms from Mumbai, the commercial Capital.

History

The discovery to this Hill Station can be proudly conferred with Hugh Poyntz Malet, who discovered this mesmerizing place in 1850. As per my research, the place was discovered and was developed for the sole purpose to avoid the summer heat in the region.

When to visit

Matheran, being a hill station can be place to visit all through the year. With the climatic conditions of the place is always pleasant Matheran is one of the coolest hill stations in the Maharashtra. The best time to visit this place is monsoon when you can experience the touch of cloud while reaching the hilltop.

How to reach

My reach to this place was no more than a fun. We all friends had a lovely journey to reach Matheran. The place is well connected by Railway and Roadway from both places; Mumbai and Pune.

Places of Interest

Matheran is a home to several places of interest. In total, there are around 36 lookout points. With 2 lakes, 2 parks and 4 worships places along with a racecourse, the hill station provides enough to the visitors. With lush plains dotted with far below villages, Matheran provides a spectacular view to mesmerize everyone.

While on a visit, we had a trip to some of the most famous points like Panorama Point, Monkey Point, Louisa Point and Porcupine Point. During the visit to Porcupine Point, we came to know, it being a famous place for a sunset view. The Panorama Point was in fact, quite famous for Sunrise view. The lakes ‘Charlotte Lake’ and ‘Karjat Palasdari Lake’ are the two lakes in the hill station.

Visiting Matheran, with my friends was a great feeling for me and with great sightseeing; the place offered me the needed mesmerizing trip with my dear friends.
